It has not been possible to discover precisely when this office was established in Milford. What is certain is that it was not founded under the name of R. T. P. Williams and Sons but as part of the firm which is today Eaton Evans and Morris. The earliest office papers, 1873, are in the name of Mr. Evans while in 1874 there are letters addressed to the firm of Mathias-Evans and Evans. Sometime between December 188O and July 1881 Richard Thomas Propert Williams joined James and Edward Eaton Evans in the firm which was known as Eaton Evans and Williams until 31st August 1937 when the partnership was dissolved. Two separate firms appeared in its place, Eaton Evans and Son, and R. T. P. Williams and Sons. The Milford office became part of the latter firm. The dissolution of the firm of Eaton Evans and Williams had severe repercussions on the records which seem to have been arbitrarily split between the two new firms. This means that sometimes records relating to the same person or property can be found both in the Eaton Evans collection (D/EE) and the R. T. P. Williams collection (D/RTP). A further complication is that in 1975 a large consignment of material was deposited by the firm of Eaton Evans and Morris in the National Library of Wales (see schedule on searchroom shelves). The records of the Milford and Haverfordwest offices of R.T.P. Williams are being listed separately under the references D/RTM and D/RTP respectively and this can also mean that records of a single person or place are split between two collections. The records of Sir Hugh J. P. Thomas are probably the best example of this. The Milford office dealt specifically with the Milford Haven Estate, purchased by Sir Hugh in 192O while the Haverfordwest office dealt with the other concerns of Sir Hugh in Glamorgan, Fishguard, Landshipping and Haverfordwest. However, many Milford Haven Estate records survive in the records of the Haverfordwest office as it was impossible for the two offices to divide the work and the records so clearly between themselves. Notes on individual sections D/RTM Office papers The bulk of this section is made up of daily accounting sheets which show what work was done each day. They cover the period 1873 - 1950.
