DescriptionThis collection was accumulated by B. G. Howells. Benjamin George Howells was born in 1900 near Narberth. After service in the Merchant Navy for nearly ten years as a radio operator and a spell in Canada he returned to Pembrokeshire in 1935 to establish the Pembrokeshire Wireless Relay Company, which remained his business base until his retirement in 1966. He was a very active and well-known public man, becoming County Councillor in 1943 and Alderman in 1951. He was Chairman of the Pembrokeshire County Council when the Queen visited the county in 1955 and held at various times the chairmanship of many committees. His great interest though was education and it was for his services in this field that he was awarded the O. B. E. in 1962. He retired from local politics in 1964 but was returned as the County Councillor for Pennar in 1970. He died in January 1971
