20 - Letter from William Turner Powell at Mighell Street to Edward Eaton Evans saying that his wife "has been going on in a most disgraceful manner . . . . . . . . . drinking with that bad man Mr Hall" and asking if he should get a seperation from her. He repeats that he wants to leave Brighton
21 - Letter from William Turner Powell at Mighell Street to Edward Eaton Evans repeating his desire to leave Brighton as "Mr Hemmings is not at all a nice man and only makes rows . . . . . . . . as long as we live at Brighton my wife will drink"

27 - Letter from James Hemmings of Mighell Street to Messrs. Eaton Evans and Williams saying that William Turner Powell has now overcome the shock at the death of his wife and is not very willing to go to London as Dr Phillips wants. He sets out his terms for Williams and his son Howell
28 - Letter from George Phillips at the Hotel Metropole Brighton to Edward Eaton Evans saying that he has been with "poor old Willie", that he should be moved to London and that Miss Phillips has agreed to take him and his son, who is eight years old "with the makings of a nice little fellow". Mrs Powell died of delirium tremens and had been pawning her jewellery some of which has been redeemed

He calculates the amount of money that will come to the children of William Turner Powell as some £2500 and considers the plan of Dr Phillips to get him away from Brighton and up to London as "most excellent"
31 - Letter from William Turner Powell at Dorset Gardens to Edward Eaton Evans thanking him for sending money to Mr Hemmings and Dr Welch, asking for more to have a haircut and buy Christmas presents for "Julia and Maryanne", mentioning that George Phillips is making arrangements with "the Miss Phillips", and saying that he will be sorry to leave Brighton in February after Turner and Gwynne finish their Christmas holidays "on account of going to see my poor dear wife's grave".
32 - Letter from George Phillips at 24 Palace Court to Edward Eaton Evans recommending that Turner should stay at Ardingly for his holidays as "he is a young blackguard and we shall have Willie off the rails if he comes up". He adds "How are Sir C. P's (Sir Charles Philipps of Picton) chances this year?"

The Scotchwell Estate located in the parish of Prendergast was originally a farm on the outskirts of Haverfordwest and in the hands of the Surman family in the 1700s.  They sold to the Stokes family  in 1794.  John Lort Stokes of Scotchwell born in 1812 accompanied Charles Darwin on HMS Beagle as a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy.  Having survived being speared by a native and escaped being eaten by a crocodile he went on to command the Beagle and  ended his career as an Admiral.  Later the estate passed to the Samson family.
