  <dc:title>Deeds and Miscellaneous Papers</dc:title>
<dc:description>This group consists of nearly 900 documents ranging in date from 1705 to c.1967. Some, such as those items relating to the Child and Hook-Child families fell naturally into groups, but the overall classification scheme within this group has been devised by the Record Office to bring order to an otherwise undifferentiated mass of papers. The classification is as follows:

Deeds and documents of the Child and Hook Child family 1745 - 1967	1-153

This collection relates principally to those parts of the Child family estate in St Issells, including the Bonvilles Court estate and colliery and other properties, althougth there are also deeds and papers relating to properties in Begelly, Ludchurch and Tenby. James Mark Child (died 10/12/1870), who was the son of James and Sarah Child, devised all his freehold estate to trustees for Albert Theodore Hook alias Child, son of Mary Hook of Begelly Lodge. Albert Hook then adopted the additional surname of Child and the family were afterwards called Hook Child, either or without a hyphen. It appears that part of the estate, including Begelly House, passed to James Mark Child's legitimate son, James Mark Philipps Child, who died without children on 13/05/1877

Among the records received was a large bundle of documents which consisted mainly of writs but included a number of related papers such as records of particular cases, which give detail, of the progress of the case up to the time of delivery of the writ, and certificates of service of writs. From 1823 to about 1848 the writs appear to relate almost exclusively to the activities of William Rees as attorney either for the plaintiff or defendant; from 1850 onwards they related mainly to Messrs Rees and Davies, but also include a number relating to William John of Haverfordwest</dc:description>
