  <dc:description>James Vaughan was a Milford entrepreneur and auctioneer.  He ran the Quay Stores on Milford Docks where he sold coal, beer and spirits, and vegetables among other things.  He also did a small amount of dealing in second hand furniture.  He generally secured contracts to provision the messes for the various army training exercises which took place in Pembrokeshire.  As well as all this activity he acquired leases of several local public houses which he then sub let and also ran an off license.  He died 3Oth August 1899 and the papers listed here reflect both his business activities and the efforts of his executors to settle his estate
