Mullock is in the parish of St Ishmaels. The family name is usually spelled Davis. On occasions it appears as Davies. The Henry Davis who figures prominently in these papers is said to have been the son of another Henry Davies who was himself the son of Gilbert Davis of Crabhall in Marloes parish, (see "The Sherriffs of the County of Pembroke" ed. Dilwyn Miles). He was born around 1760 and married Jane daughter of Thomas Williams of Pope Hill. He died on 16/05/1825 and was buried at St Ishmaels. By about 1842 his son Gilbert William Davis had built a house called Trewarren not far from Mullock and had moved there to live. Descendants of Gilbert called themselves Warren Davis. The Warren came from Thomas Williams' wife Anne, who had been a Warren of Trewern before her marriage. It is not at all clear from these papers that there were two men, father and son, both called Henry |
