Description | (R. T. P. Williams was Town Clerk of Haverfordwest for a considerable period) The records are organised on approximately the same basis as the main collection of records being divided into records of the Corporation up to 1835, and records of the post municipal reform Corporation
As a result of historical accident, these records fall into 3 groups :- those records which were deposited in the National Library of Wales in 19l|8 and transferred to this office in 1971 (schedule referred to as H'west Boro .); those received from various departments of the Borough Council from 1971 onwards (lists with reference HAM/); and those found among the papers of R.T.P.Williams, solicitors, (lists with reference D/RTP/HAM). The latter collection arises from the fact that R.T.P.Williams was Town Clerk for a long period. Broadly speaking, the material deposited in the National Library consists of the earlier material, from 13th century to 19th century; those records received from the Council Offices are mainly 20th century; and those from R.T.P.Williams cover a broad period from 13th century to 20th century. There are also small numbers of 'strays' in the Eaton-Evans and Williams collection in the National Library of Wales, and in the papers deposited in this office by Mr. Douglas James (DX/9). Conversely, the classes HAM/SE/21 and HAM/TR/21 appear to be collections of private records which have strayed into the Corporation records. The National Library of Wales schedule is not classified in any way except chronologically. The other two groups are classified by provenance and record type : below is a guide to the main classes :- Unreformed Borough (up to 1835) Accounts and vouchers HAM/23, HAM/TR/1/1, RTP/HAM/72-124 Charters HAM/1-14 Deeds, leases etc HAM/15, 17-22, RTP/HAM/1 -71, 344 -353 344 -346 Deeds of the Charnell House 349 - 352 Deeds of the Free School lands Minutes HAM/SE/1/1,2 Miscellaneous HAM/16, RTP/HAM/150-183, 354 Taxation and related papers Haverfordwest was divided into 8 wards for assessment which were grouped as follows :- 1.
