Field at Deddington about James White's farm and about his own difficult financial circumstances since his return from Oxfordshire because of people calling on him for money which should have been paid by the people in charge of his affairs during his absence.
145 - Copy or draft of a letter from the Rev. William Evans at Upton Castle to an un-named addressee (probably Samuel Field). He has not yet received a remittance from Mr. White. He and his son Edward are short of cash. All his other sons would put him in a mad house again if they could. They have incurred debts of £2000 in his absence. He entrusts Edward to the care of the addressee should he be taken off again. He wants Edward to have the whole of his late mother's property in Oxfordshire

He says that Sir James Graham and other Admiralty officials have been visiting Pembroke Dockyard. He fears war is impending and thinks that such a war could usher in a revolution.
151 - Draft or copy letter from the Rev. William Evans to S.C. Field. Reluctantly he will be forced to demand payment from James White as a lot of money is owed to him. He thinks that the manufacturers' demand for cheap bread might ruin the farmers and thus the country. He hopes to let Upton and retire to Bath in the next year

He proposes instead that they should try to get the Bishop to licence William himself to Nash and Upton as is his wish
157 - Copy letter from the Rev. William Evans to the Bishop of St. Davids about a possible exchange between the incumbents of Nash and Loveston. Mr. Thomas, the Rector of Nash, does not now seem inclined to vacate the parish

The Bishop of St. Davids would like to see divine service performed regularly in it. There is no stipend for a minister. He (William) has promised £200 if the Governors of Queen Anne's Bounty will provide their usual £300. He asks that the matter can be placed before them

William Evans asking who normally keeps Upton Chapel in repair and whether the tiny population of the Chapelry can be expected to do it. William Evans had offered to augment the Chapel and the Board of Governors of Queen Anne's Bounty had been considering the offer
162 - Davids. He says that within his memory all of Nash and Upton belonged to a Dr. Bowen who died leaving four daughters. As a result Nash was separated from Upton. Nash is inhabited by poor farmers who find it hard to support the church. All of Upton parish is settled on his wife's son by her marriage to the Rev. Thomas Woods so he has only a life interest in it and can only make provision to keep Upton Chapel in good repair during his life. He points out the similarity between Upton and Nash on the one hand and Redberth and Carew on the other.
163 - Copy or draft of letter from the Rev. William Evans to an unnamed addressee explaining the position of Nash and Upton. Upton is a chapel of the mother church at Nash, about 2 miles distant. Upton is a parish of some 300 acres containing 21 people. The incumbent of Nash is the Rev. Evan Davies who lives at Llangrannog in Cardiganshire. It is many years since divine service was performed in Upton Chapel for when the estate was purchased (by John Tasker) about 22 years previous it was a ruin

192 - Letter from C.B. Spencer at Birmingham to the Rev. W.P. Evans saying that he had hoped to arrange the matter between them amicably but is compelled now to call in his solicitor.
193 - Copy letters from John Harvey to J. Thompson and E. Pollard about C.B. Spencer's dealings with the Rev. William Paynter Evans. It is clear from the letters that Spencer represented himself as the nephew of Earl Spencer but the Earl has denied any knowledge of him. Spencer left Upton Castle abruptly some ten days before and has not sent to the Rev. Evans the rent that was owing. The tradesmen of the area have taken alarm.

Pollard saying he has asked Mr. Spencer to come and discuss what he proposes to do about the lease and other matters dated 5th October, and from J. Thompson saying he has changed his opinion of Mr. Spencer and now believes him to be "the most infamous imposter and in every respect the greatest rascal I ever came in contact with", dated 3rd October. The texts of the three letters are on a single sheet of paper.
